Catastrophic Care Benefits
Many university benefits protect employees and their families during difficult times.
In addition to basic life and disability insurance which automatically covers all benefits-eligible employees, a number of other optional insurance benefits are available. The university also offers Catastrophic Leave Bank and Family Medical Leave Act programs.
Eligible employees are automatically covered by basic life insurance through Standard Life Insurance Company (The Standard), provided for you at no cost. This plan pays your beneficiary the amount of your annual salary, up to a maximum of $50,000, in benefits. Optional plans are also available for eligible employees and their family members.
Disability benefits replace some earnings in the event of an injury or illness that prevents you from working. Eligible employees are automatically covered for short- and long-term disability by Standard Life Insurance Company (The Standard), provided for you at no cost. Eligible employees may also purchase optional disability coverage.
Accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance coverage protects you and your family against losses that occur in the event of an accident resulting in death or the loss of sight or limb.
Critical Illness Insurance
Critical illness insurance pays a lump-sum benefit payment for these covered medical conditions: cancer, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, major organ transplant, Alzheimer's Disease or coronary bypass graft.
