Communications and Marketing Job Subfamilies

The Communications and Marketing family fosters all forms of internal and external communication for effectiveness between the university and its students, employees, alumni and the public in order to advance the university’s strategic vision.

Broadcast Services

Create, produce, and distribute broadcast content across different mediums such as television, radio or online platforms. This includes technical, operational and creative aspects of broadcasting.

Communications (Generalist)

Perform multiple communications functions to promote the university and/or a particular college, division, department or unit with the media, public, employees and governmental agencies. Create, enhance and sustain relationships with internal and external constituencies. Manage and perform strategic communications planning. Develop and implement messaging. Manage issues, crisis communications and continuous news coverage efforts.

Digital Content Development

Designs webpages and templates, creates style guides to ensure consistent look and feel for digital media content, oversees web policy compliance, ensures search engine optimization and regularly audits digital channels. Develops and executes editorial projects for a wide range of institution channels and tracks analytics.

Marketing

Markets campus activities, services or products to enhance the university’s stature to external constituents. Plans, directs, develops and/or implements marketing campaigns. Campaigns may include but are not limited to digital, print, television and radio advertising, social media and direct mailing.

Marketing and Communications Strategy

Provides strategic direction in the areas of marketing and communications in order to best serve the needs of the university or a specific college/division.

Multimedia and Design

Develops and designs audio and visual projects, multimedia presentations and supports campus events. Includes specialists, such as animators, artists, graphic designers, sound engineers, programmers, photographers and videographers who collaborate to design and implement project ideas and creative content.

Publishing

Creating, refining, and distributing content to a broad audience through various mediums. It encompasses content creation, editing, design, and either traditional printing or digital publication.

Writing and Editing

Develops, researches, writes, edits and/or publishes written materials, including publications, articles, proposals, speeches, social media posts, promotional materials and news releases. Manage, coordinate and provide specialized support for writing and editing efforts such as proofreading, citation checking or quality control of content including grammar, tone and voice.
