Student and Academic Services Job Subfamilies
The Student and Academic Services job family develops and implements strategies, systems, processes, learning experiences and networks that support achievement of desired academic, student development, and career outcomes to enhance the overall student experience.
Academic Advising
Advises students on class selection, registration, choice of major, post-graduate
planning, and other key academic issues; collaborates w/ students to develop an overall
plan for degree completion incorporating academic, career, and life goals; maintains
an accurate working knowledge of current academic policies, curriculum, processes
and relevant student resources; facilitates student problem-solving and decision-making
in an academic context.
Academic Affairs
Oversees and implements the institution's or college's academic programming and policy
approval process. Reviews and analyzes existing programs to ensure compliance with
institutional, state, and federal policies and regulations. Conducts evaluations of
programs, projects, and policies to assess effectiveness and recommend refinements.
Academic Program Management
Oversees and administers an academic program. Administers, creates and/or evaluates
the effectiveness of program achievements. May oversee and/or create core program
components, curricula and/or instruction. Manages additional administrative functions
which may include, budget, human resources and coordination with internal and external
stakeholders.
Recruitment and Admissions
Performs activities related to the recruitment, evaluation, and selection of students
seeking entrance to the institution. Initiates, implements and monitors strategies
and procedures that ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of recruitment, evaluation,
and selection.
Program Outcome Assessment
Conducts evaluations of academic programs' assessment of student learning and suggests
refinements. Tracks the progress of the institution's assessment of learning outcomes,
as manifested in academic degree programs and general education.
Career Services
Promotes student support services such as career counseling and employment initiatives
to ensure students receive quality career counseling services.
Financial Aid
Strategizes, plans and processes student financial aid operations. Includes financial
counseling, award verification and determination, funds management, risk management
and compliance with federal, state, local and athletic organizations regulations and
requirements, as well as university policies.
Student Activities and Engagement
Provides social, adjustment, and belonging initiatives including community involvement,
community building, student governance, leadership advising, and fraternity and sorority
management.
Instructional Design and Support
Plans and develops courses that provide regular and substantive interactions, clear
learning objectives and assess learning outcomes. Provides insights and recommendations
on teaching practices that enhance learning and comprehension in online for-credit,
non-credit and workforce development courses.
Immigration/Global Education
Advances the global reach of the institution and its students and faculty. Supports
the university to ensure successful international initiatives, student experiences
through global education programs, university intercultural and area studies, and/or
advising of non-immigrant needs of international students, scholars, and employees.
Registration and Records
Provides registration and commencement planning and implementation services, and manages
student records. Implements and enforces instructional, professional, and legal standards
and regulations related to academic records.
Residence Life
Develops and implements residential life programs, services, activities, leadership
advising for students living on campus. Plans and administers housing services to
include on-call and emergency response needs.
Student Support Services
Assists and empowers students by focusing on direct service and support with various
academic and career planning needs by collaborating with other university departments
and communities to provide support to address student needs and inquiries regarding
college attendance, learning strategy support, graduation planning, financial aid
and registration. Upholds community standards including academic integrity and behavioral
expectations.
