Employee Development Program

Certificate Programs

The following are free certificate programs offered through Human Resources. To qualify for the certificate of completion you must attend all classes, complete all assigned work, and write a personal impact statement after all other coursework is completed. Our certificate programs offer the flexibility to meet your work demand. Coursework, including attendance for the classes, does not need to be completed in sequence nor does it need to be completed all in one term offering, and you may begin classes at any time. Please register for each class individually by visiting the training calendar at https://edp.uark.edu/.  Many programs are being updated and will be offered at a future date.

Accounting Certificate Program

This program is designed to help an employee learn and improve the skills necessary for accounting jobs within the university. Sessions will include: general ledger accounting; cashless campus/payments; fraud; data security basics; payment card compliance; credit card chargebacks; retrievals; inventory accounting; sponsored programs; Treasurer’s Office processes, including tuition waivers, external invoicing, and debt collection; cash handling procedures; payroll; Workday security roles and setup; UAConnect/Student Workday; and financial reporting. There are 8 sections in total. 

This program will resume in Spring 2023.

Administrative Assistant Certificate Program

This program is designed to help an employee improve their professional administrative skills, including customer service, time management, communication styles, written communication, active listening, Workday utilization, travel, university resources, and labor laws. There are 8 classes in total.

Diversity Certificate Program

The Employee Development Program's diversity certificate program is designed to develop and recognize commitment to the university's diversity initiative. The certificate program consists of a minimum of 20 combined hours of training and/or self-study and community service in each of the areas covered by the diversity values statement.

Emergency Preparedness Certificate Program

This program is designed to help individuals increase their emergency preparedness skills, not only in their personal lives but also contribute to overall departmental readiness and campus resiliency. The classes consist of hands-on learning like CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed and Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events. While other classes focus on a specific knowledge area, such as Continuity of Operations and Verbal De-Escalation. There are 9 classes in total.

Human Resources Certificate Program

This program is designed to help an employee improve their human resources skills including: the hiring process and posting positions, Title IX, diversity and inclusion, employment law, compensation, benefits, record keeping, privacy rights, employee relations and the opportunity to create a network of subject-matter experts as well as other University employees working in the HR area. There are 8 classes in total.

Principles of Leadership Certificate Program

This program is designed for all levels of leadership within the university, including any aspiring leaders.  All certificate programs are free.  Sessions will include: leading vs. managing, history of leadership style theories, leading when not in charge, evaluation of your leadership strengths, emotional intelligence, influence/negotiation/collaboration, women in leadership, implicit bias, networking, and a capstone project.  There are 7 classes in total.

Professional Development Certificate Program

This program is designed to help an employee improve their professional skills including: writing a quality resume and cover letter, creating an introductory video of oneself, interviewing, communicating effectively, building a positive relationship with your boss, creating and delivering a presentation, and resolving conflicts. There are 6 classes in total.

Supervisor Development Certificate Program

The Supervisor Development Program promotes excellence in selecting and managing the university's workforce by educating participants about the skills, knowledge and resources needed to effectively lead and coach other employees.

Wellness Certificate Program

The Wellness Certificate Program is designed to develop and recognize a commitment to overall health and well-being. This program consists of a combination of training and/or self-study, as well as community service, across the 8 dimensions of wellnessidentified by UARK Wellness of University Recreation in partnership with Human Resources.

The Employee Development Program also facilitates departmental training, strategic planning and/or retreats. Using exercises and discussion, the Employee Development Program can help departments identify core values, articulate a common purpose, and develop a mission statement or strategic plan. Group training is also available on topics such as working as a team, working with different personality types, understanding generational differences, dealing with difficult people and providing customer service. Contact an HR Expert or call 479-575-6103 for a consultation to customize training for your department.

Departments or units that collect fees for the sale of any product or service and permit customers to make multiple payments are requiredby Fayetteville Policies and Procedures 313.5 to complete online Red Flag training in Blackboard Learn. Positions that require Red Flag training are identified in Workday. Supervisors for positions that require training enroll employees and update the employee's record when training is complete.
