Description:

Academic Counselor in the Advising Center of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. This is a 12-month, full-time position with paid vacation and fringe benefits. Responsibilities are primarily in the areas of student advising, retention and recruiting. Duties include the counseling and advising of undergraduate students in the areas of course selection, degree requirements, exploration of major and career goals, and adjustment to college life. The counselor will work primarily with freshmen and sophomore students, many of whom are undecided about their major.
The Advising Center also assists students who are pursuing an allied health program, who are in academic difficulty and who have general academic questions. Recruiting responsibilities include a complete knowledge of College programs, ability to travel within the region to represent the College at recruiting events, and effective communication skills to address the needs of prospective students and their families.
The academic counselor will assist with the College portion of the New Student Orientation Program, which includes advising new students, meeting and talking with parents and students about College programs and requirements, and other duties as they arise. Specific duties may change as retention initiatives evolve. Effective communication skills, both written and oral, are essential for this position. |

Minimum Requirements:
|
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; master’s degree is preferred. Candidates are encouraged to include interest, skills, and knowledge specific to academic advising in cover letter or resume. |

Preferred Qualifications:
|
Prior exposure to the liberal arts is preferred. |
