This position is housed in the State Extension Office building complex in Little Rock, Arkansas. Little Rock is located in central Arkansas and comprises the state’s major metropolitan center and is the state Capital. Little Rock is in close proximity to the Ozark and Ouachita Highlands. Central Arkansas offers one of the nation’s finest living environments with ample cultural, educational and recreational opportunities. In addition to the Division of Agriculture, the University of Arkansas is a multi-campus system. The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville is the state’s 1862 land-grant campus. Other major university campuses in the University of Arkansas System include the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (the state’s 1890 institution), the University of Arkansas at Monticello, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and University of Arkansas Medical Science Center. In addition, there are five two-year campuses in the University of Arkansas System.

Associate Vice President for Agriculture – Extension / Director, Cooperative Extension Service.
The Division of Agriculture is part of the University of Arkansas System and includes the Cooperative Extension Service and Agricultural Experiment Station. The Associate Vice President for Agriculture - Extension reports directly to the Vice President for Agriculture and is the chief administrative officer of the Cooperative Extension Service. In that role, the Associate Vice President for Agriculture - Extension works closely with the Associate Vice Presidents for Agriculture – Research and Academic Programs who are both headquartered in Fayetteville. The administration, support personnel and the majority of Extension subject matter faculty are housed in the state Extension office complex in Little Rock. Division faculty and facilities are located on five university campuses, at five regional Research and Extension Centers, eight Branch Stations and other locations. An Extension office is located in each of the 75 counties in cooperation with county governments. The operating budget for the Cooperative Extension Service is in excess of $40 million. A faculty and staff of more than 850 provide educational programs across the state. |

Minimum Requirements:
|
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in agriculture, forestry and natural resources, family and consumer sciences or related field. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:
Administrative experience at the Department Head (or equivalent) level or higher, preferably in a land grant university. Minimum of five years of professional Extension experience preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to work with people to improve the quality of their lives, community and state;
Visionary in his/her abilities to utilize resources to position the organization for the future;
Ability to lead and successfully manage professionals and para-professionals in an Extension setting;
Demonstrated ability to work with public and private leadership in the state and nation;
Ability to facilitate working relations within the University System;
Demonstrated success in securing program support and managing resources;
Strong communication skills. |
