How to Apply for a Classified Position

Before the screening Interview:

  1. View our job openings. Employment opportunities are listed on our University of Arkansas Human Resources homepage, in the Human Resources office, and on the Job Line, a recorded telephone message which is updated weekly. That number is (479) 575-JOBS. http://hr.uark.edu/employment
  2. Fill out a University of Arkansas Application. An application can be obtained in several ways: Online; pick one up in our office (Administration Building Room 222); or call Human Resources at (479) 575-5351 and we will mail you one. http://hr.uark.edu/forms

The Screening Interview:

  1. Come to Human Resources for a screening interview with an employment staff member. Interview hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment.
  2. Take a keyboarding and/or software proficiency test. For those applicants applying for clerical/secretarial positions and other positions requiring software proficiencies, a keyboarding test and possibly specific software proficiency tests will be administered as part of the screening interview.
  3. If during your screening interview it is determined that you at least meet the "Minimum Qualifications", your application and resume will be forwarded to the hiring department in which the vacancy exists for their review.

After the Screening Interview

  1. Wait. Typically, the hiring department will contact their top candidates for an interview within 5 to 10 days after applications have been referred to them from our office.
  2. If you see another position that you are interested in, just call and let us know. We keep applications and resumes on active status for 6 months and usually there is no need for a second screening interview.

Notes

  • Applying directly to any other department for classified positions can slow the application process as each application for these positions must come through Human Resources first.
  • Also, submitting incomplete application will delay the reviewing process.
